PARIS – 26 March 2024
La Poste, the French postal administration, unveiled the new 2024 Paris Olympic Games stamp on Tuesday, 26 March 2024. The date marks 4 months until the opening of the Games on 26 July.
In attendance at the Musée de La Poste for the unveiling ceremony were the President of La Poste, Philippe Wahl; President of Paris 2024, Tony Estanguet; and Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.
Printed in panes of 12 with a decorative margin, the €1.96 stamp pays the international letter rate. A total of 800,000 of the stamp have been printed. The design features geometric representations of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, a heart and a generic athlete. Both the Olympic and Paralympic logos for 2024 are included. The stamps also feature a special gilding on the gold areas of the design.
The Olympic stamps have limited sales from Friday, 29 March through 4 April at the Carré d’Encre, La Poste’s philatelic shop in downtown Paris. Beginning Friday, 5 April, the stamp will be sold at post offices throughout France.
When asked about any philatelic plans for the upcoming Torch Relay, which begins in Greece on 16 April, the president of La Poste replied that no special cancellations were planned during the French portion of the relay. He did confirm that there would be three temporary official post offices opened during the Games. Presumably one of those will be in the Olympic Village. It is not yet known if either of the other two will be in locations accessible by the general public.
La Poste is an official supplier to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
