Journal of Sports Philately
International award-winning magazine
Over 70 years of philatelic history
Sports Philatelists International began publishing in October 1953 when SPI was the Sports Unit of the American Topical Association. The newsletter — first called Sportcast and later SportStamps — was produced erratically between 1953 and August 1962. Beginning in September 1962, when SPI became an independent organization, the publication changed its name to the Journal of Sports Philately (JSP). For the first five years, JSP was published monthly in a loose-leaf, newsletter format, converting to a bi-monthly in July 1967. In September 1990, JSP was completely redesigned into an 8½ x 11 inch, perfect bound publication. With our Fall 2002 issue, JSP converted to a quarterly publication; color was introduced with the Spring 2008 issue. Finally, with our Spring 2014 issue we made the move to a professional printer. Our full-color, award-winning, 40-page magazine continues to this day. The most recent 5 full volumes of issues are only accessible to SPI members.
